The DAM at the Berlin Science Week
Location
Deep Dive Forum, Berliner Naturkundemuseum
Fact or myth? The German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) uses the combined knowledge of research to tackle common preconceptions about the ocean and climate – from sea ice to fisheries.
At the Deep Dive Forum on 1 November at 5 pm, four scientists from DAM member institutions will provide insights into their research in short, entertaining presentations and subject common myths about the ocean to a fact check. The topics include sea ice, wave research and the question of how good it is for our planet to eat fish.
- Annette Breckwoldt, Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT)
- Lena Buth, Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI)
- Jan Hitzegrad, Coastal Research Centre (FZK), TU Braunschweig
- Christopher Zimmermann, Thünen Institute.
The DAM will also be presenting its activities at a stand on November 1 and November 2: Here, visitors can deepen their knowledge of coasts, seas and oceans and test it in a science quiz. Our transfer projects Interactive World Ocean and the Oceans Online information portal will help you find the right answers and discover data and research findings, amazing things and wonders about the world of the oceans. Immerse yourself in the facts about some of the most pressing issues of our time: on a virtual touch screen you can discover sunken ships and swim with schools of dolphins, but also experience coral bleaching and dramatic changes to coastlines. We look forward to welcoming many interested visitors!
