NLWKN becomes 25th DAM member
The German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) has a new member: the Lower Saxony Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation Agency (NLWKN)
The German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) has a new member: on September 10, the DAM General Assembly accepted the Lower Saxony Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation Agency (NLWKN) as its newest associate member. The DAM now has a total of 25 members: 18 voting members and 7 associate members. At its meeting on 13 June 2024, the DAM Administrative Council approved the admission of the NLWKN by the General Assembly.
The NLWKN is a service provider, specialist authority and point of contact for water management, coastal protection, nature conservation and radiation protection in Lower Saxony and, in this function, is particularly entrusted with tasks relating to the protection and utilisation of Lower Saxony’s coastal waters. With the Coastal Research Centre, the state agency operates its own non-university research facility, which is geared towards the specific tasks of the NLWKN with an interdisciplinary approach. This Coastal Research Centre is already involved as a joint partner in the MetaScales project in the third DAM research mission ‘Pathways to Improved Risk Management in the Field of Marine Extreme Events and Natural Hazards’, or mareXtreme for short, which began its work at the start of 2024
‘We are delighted to welcome the NLWKN to the ranks of the DAM! With its internationally recognised expertise in the field of coastal research and protection and its focus on sustainable coastal management, the NLWKN enriches and complements the thematic range of DAM member institutions perfectly,’ says Joachim Harms, Chairman of the DAM Executive Board.
