Management

Humans have established boundaries in the ocean and created zones in which ownership claims to certain areas and their resources are regulated – but the seas and oceans themselves flow into one another. Successful marine management therefore requires joint solutions. It can only work if all interest groups work together: Business, politics and those directly affected on the ground must fundamentally have a common understanding of how to deal with the sea, but at the same time many different interests and goals always resonate.

A lack of community spirit, fragmented and unclear responsibilities and a lack of controls make effective marine management difficult. National and international agreements enshrine marine protection in law – but it must be lived and implemented by all stakeholders. Sustainable marine management requires joint solutions aimed at sustainable use and the necessary marine protection. After all, sustainable use is the only way to preserve the biodiversity and ecosystems of the seas and oceans – and thus also the ecological services that are both the basis of life and the basis for management.

more about Management

Management
