Science in Parliament
Workshop at the Science Communication Forum with other partners from the scientific community
Together with Helmholtz SynCom and its strategic partner, the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS), the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) organised an interactive workshop on the topic of ‘Science in Parliament’. The aim of the DAM is to incorporate scientific expertise more strongly into political decision-making processes – a concern that met with great interest.
At the workshop, which took place as part of the Science Communication Forum of Wissenschaft im Dialog, 42 participants discussed the following questions at four stations:
- Which science policy formats can effectively support and complement the political debate?
- How can the scientific quality of science policy dialogue be ensured and how can we prepare scientists for dialogue with policymakers?
- How can we evaluate the effectiveness of science-policy dialogues?
- How do we reach political actors (e.g. ministries vs. MPs,…)?
The intensive discussions provided valuable impulses for further networking between science and politics.
You can find out more about the topics and results in the results report (PDF).
